Two men have been arrested after human remains believed to be those of 85 year old Chris Baghsarian, were discovered in Sydney’s north west marking a chilling development in the investigation into the abduction. Arrests came after the detectives from the Robbery & Serious Crime Squad located human remains near a golf club in Pitt Town on Tuesday, February 24, as part of Strike Force Chobat’s ongoing inquiries. Detectives from the Robbery & Serious Crime Squad located human remains near a golf club in Pitt Town on Tuesday, February 24, as part of Strike Force Chobat’s ongoing inquiries. This grim discovery has intensified efforts to piece together the events that led to Baghsarian’s disappearance. Baghsarian was taken from his North Ryde home at around 5am on February 13 by a group of masked men. He lived alone and had no links to organised crime. Investigators now believe the elderly man may have been the victim of mistaken identity. They suspect the kidnappers were actually targeting a relative of Dimitri Stepanyan, 37, the convicted armed robber and founder of the streetwear brand, Proper Streetwear, who resides nearby. Stepanyan served seven years of a ten-year sentence for his role in a 2009 armed robbery at the Forestville RSL Club, during which more than $25,000 was stolen. Court documents also note his extensive criminal history and prior issues with drugs, alcohol, and gambling. Authorities have confirmed that Stepanyan is not accused of any involvement in Baghsarian’s abduction. Stepanyan promotes himself as a Sydney-based entrepreneur and the creative force behind Proper Streetwear. The brand has gained attention for its connections to alleged figures within the Alameddine crime network, including rapper Ay Huncho, who often wears the label in music videos and social media posts. Certain clothing items carry the phrase “never cross the family,” which police say references the Alameddine network. Since Baghsarian’s disappearance, Strike Force detectives have been exploring potential links between the kidnapping and the Alameddine network. Messages published online purportedly show Baghsarian’s captors demanding a $50 million ransom from Stepanyan, although no ransom was ever requested from Baghsarian’s family. Police have been conducting large-scale searches of bushland around Glenorie, after reports that a burnt-out vehicle connected to the abduction had been seen in the area. Previously, Detective Acting Superintendent Andrew Marks has said that hopes of finding Baghsarian alive were fading, noting that the 85-year-old requires daily medical treatment. No suspects have been publicly identified. Investigators have also confirmed they have not linked the kidnapping to the ongoing conflict between the Alameddine network and the Coconut Cartel.
