Acute cases of heel spurs require special treatment, but you can usually treat the more moderate ones yourself. It’s essential to return the heel (and the whole foot) to its original position.
Heel spurs are caused when the foot is poorly positioned and overburdened or strained unevenly. The foot is decentered and the important points are not aligned. The body’s weight falls on other areas that are not designated for the task.
Only a moderate deviation from the axis is all it takes for a problem to arise. That’s why it’s important to find the ideal position of the heel. You’ll learn with this exercise. Here’s how:
➡️ Stand up on both feet.
➡️ Focus on one foot.
➡️ The heel is your fixed point. Rock your heel on this point from side to side.
➡️ The ideal position is one between the extremes. In this position, the heel bone is in full contact with the surface beneath it.
Discovering the ideal position is the first step to treating a heel spur. This exercise can even help with acute cases – the heel spur won’t get worse with the proper positioning, but don’t forget to see your physician as well.
