The Goddess Hera had a passionate following in the ancient world and a number of her temples have been found here in southern italy most notably the two stunning ones at Paestum, the greek city on the tyrannian sea near here.. Interestingly the Goddess Hera, not unlike the Virgin Mary, was portrayed as maternal, solemn and majestic.

So you can begin to see why indeed, it’s called Sacred Mountain. In fact its name Gelbison derives from an arab word meaning “mountain of the Gods”. These lands have been visited and invaded by many peoples over it long history including Arab tribes along the Tyrrhenian coast around the year 800 and much later, warriors from the Ottoman empire. Arab soldiers were employed as mercenaries by Christian kingdoms fighting each other and hence the Arabic influence.

“Gelbison” deriva da una parola Araba che significa “Monte degli Idoli”. . Queste terre sono stati
visitati e invasi di molti popoli nell'arco delle loro lunga storia comprese di Arabi sulla costa del
mar tirreno all’incirca l’anno 800 e molti anni dopo, da conquistatori del imperio Ottomano.
Soldati Arabi furono impiegati come mercenari dai regni Cristiani nelle guerre tra di loro e
pertanto la influenza Araba.
