We continue our adventures in Arizona with another popular spot in the Pheonix Metro Area. Tom's Thumb Trail is located in the McDowell Sonoran Desert Preserve in Rio Verde, AZ. The facilities here are quite nice, and the trails are well maintained. Tom's Thumb Trail is a 4.4 mile Out-and-back trail with an elevation gain of just under 1,250 feet. It is labeled as hard, but I would say it is very doable as long as you watch your step and have decent boots or trail runners. There is no scrambling or climbing on this route. The rock formations in this area are mesmerizing, and the landscape feels very unusual to those of us who aren't local to the area. I certainly recommend this hike if you are in the area. It was very fascinating to witness emergency rescue services working in real time. That was a new experience for the both of us. Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for more!
