We arrive in Arizona just as the winter is fading from the Great Southwest. Snow melt is plentiful, and it is surprisingly green in the desert this time of year. I really adore Arizona in the winter, will have to be back! Elephant Head via East Ridge Trail is a 12.9 Mile Out-and-Back trail with 3,120 ft of elevation gain. We were able to drive in about 2 miles on the OHV trail and set up camp for an early morning start. This trail is not managed by the Madera Canyon volunteer group, so it is much more difficult to access and quite overgrown. I do not recommend driving out here without 4WD and some decent clearance. That said, Elephant Head was an excellent hike, full of difficulties and obstacles to overcome. A fantastic start to our Arizona adventure! Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for more.
