Описание: An emission spectrum is the pattern of light (or electromagnetic radiation) emitted by atoms or molecules when their electrons return from higher to lower energy levels. When a substance is excited—by heat, electricity, or radiation—its electrons absorb energy and move to higher energy states. As they fall back to their original levels, they release energy in the form of light at specific wavelengths. These emitted wavelengths appear as bright lines on a dark background, known as a line emission spectrum, which is unique for each element. Thus, emission spectra serve as a “fingerprint” for identifying elements in stars, gases, and other substances in both laboratory and astronomical studies.
