STORY SUMMARY:

Jake Matthews buys a remote two-acre island on Lake Wenatchee three weeks before a zombie apocalypse destroys civilization. As chaos erupts, he escapes to his island with minimal supplies—a small cabin, basic camping gear, his father's hunting rifle, and two weeks of food.
Isolated and alone, Jake spends 70 harrowing days learning to survive. He catches fish, sets snares for birds, repairs his damaged boat, and defends against infected swimmers who reach his shore. A desperate supply run to the mainland nearly kills him when he's attacked by infected. He barely escapes with a few cans of food. As winter closes in and the lake begins to freeze, Jake reaches his breaking point. With the rifle under his chin, ready to end it, he sees lights across the water—other survivors.
A rescue boat arrives from a community of 43 survivors on a larger island. Jake is quarantined, accepted, and integrated into their organized camp. He transitions from isolated survival to communal living, teaching others his hard-won fishing skills, participating in hunts, and helping build a sustainable future.
The story follows Jake's journey from corporate escapism to apocalyptic isolation to rediscovering humanity through community—learning that survival alone isn't enough; connection is what keeps us human.
