When the zombie outbreak begins, most people run toward crowds, lights, and any place that still looks official. I do the opposite. I’m Travis Harker, a paramedic from rural Georgia, and long before the first roads clog up and the first shelters start falling apart, I already have a place hidden on family land where I plan to disappear. I built it with one rule that was supposed to keep me alive when everything else failed: no visitors, no exceptions. Not friends, not neighbors, not desperate strangers. Just me, locked in behind steel, supplies, and the belief that survival depends on saying no before panic gets close enough to talk.

But rules are easy when the people outside are faceless. They get a lot harder when your estranged brother shows up at your door injured, exhausted, and responsible for a teenager who has nowhere else to go. That is when the shelter stops being just a hiding place and turns into something worse: a test of what kind of man I really am. In this story, every decision has a cost, every voice outside could be a threat, and the safest place I ever built becomes the place where I have to face the one thing I thought I could seal out for good—my own conscience.
