At this morning’s Toddler and Early Years STEM session, we explored a simple and exciting water fountain science activity — perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and EYFS learning.
This easy STEM experiment uses everyday materials and is ideal for supporting curiosity, problem‑solving, cause and effect, and early science skills.
How to Make a Toddler‑Friendly Water Fountain
You’ll need:
a plastic bottle
a bendy straw
coloured water
a balloon
Make a small hole in the middle of the bottle and push the bendy straw through. Fill the bottle with coloured water to just below halfway. Blow up a balloon, stretch it over the top of the bottle, and watch as the air pressure pushes the water out through the straw like a fountain.
