Highlights Mourning in the Morning 2026

Описание: At the Australia Day Council of South Australia, our vision is to amplify our nation’s stories commencing with our First Nations peoples, our migrant and refugee story, our ancestral story and cultural heritage. We place reconciliation at the centre, reflecting upon and celebrating our diversity and unity while embracing inclusion for all Australians.

Due to the hottest Australia Day on record and the extreme heatwave across South Australia, in 2026 for the wellbeing and safety of all the evening program including the Aus Lights Parade, Aus Lights on the River and Official Ceremony were cancelled following consultation with emergency services and key authorities. We thank everyone for their support and understanding and look forward to welcoming you to the full program in 2027.

The morning program went ahead at Elder Park/Tarntanya Wama as planned - the Mourning in the Morning, a First Nations-led ceremony opened 26 January with truth-telling, reflection and cultural leadership. Guided by the theme Our Continuing Journey the ceremony, keynote speeches and performances affirmed the resilience and continuity of First Nations cultures.

Mourning in the Morning Smoking Ceremony was presented in partnership with key event partner SA Power Networks, and Community Support Partners Adelaide PHN, Adelaide University, Credit Union SA, Sarah Constructions, SDA and Sofitel Adelaide.
