The village is celebrated for its well-preserved architectural complex of Ming and Qing dynasty courtyards, which are known for their magnificent scale, exquisite carvings, and timeless charm.
A beautiful stream bisects the village, meandering like a slowly unfurling screen—hence the name "Dongping" (meaning Eastern Screen). Despite its ancient roots, the village is still home to over two thousand residents. It is not only hailed as the "Museum of Traditional Dwellings in Eastern Zhejiang" but also praised as a "Village from a Chinese Painting" due to its picturesque landscapes and antique buildings. It stands out as one of the largest and most well-preserved ancient villages I have ever visited.
