扬州大明寺始建于南朝宋孝武帝大明元年（457年）。明天顺五年（1461年），僧人智沧溟决心重建扬州大明寺庙宇，经师徒三代经营，规模渐复。
Daming Temple in Yangzhou was first built in the first year of the Daming era of Emperor Xiaowu of the Southern Song Dynasty (457 AD). In the fifth year of the Tianshun era of the Ming Dynasty (1461 AD), the monk Zhi Cangming was determined to rebuild Daming Temple in Yangzhou. After three generations of management by the monk and his disciples, the temple gradually recovered its scale.
