Manan Ahmed Asif, Associate Professor, Dept. of History, Columbia University, recently delivered a talk as part of the Seminar and Lecture Series at the School of Arts and Sciences, Ahmedabad University. In this talk, he focused on the questions facing historians of the medieval period on how to think about the pre-colonial past. He closely examines the most complete idea of Hindustan, elaborated by the early seventeenth century Deccan historian Firishta.
Through this lecture Manan Ahmed Asif seeks to find out how Firishta’s notions of Hindustan were lost and replaced by a different idea of India to the one that we inhabit today.
