Monday – Fourth Week of Lent.
On this Lenten Monday, we pray the Joyful Mysteries, which recall the Incarnation of Jesus and His early life. These mysteries—the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Presentation, and the Finding in the Temple—focus on the joy of God’s saving plan entering the world. During Lent, a time of penance and preparation, the Joyful Mysteries remind us of the foundational event of our salvation that makes our Lenten journey meaningful: God becoming man.
📖 Gospel (John 4:43-54) According to the Lectionary for March 16, 2026: “Jesus left Samaria for Galilee. For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his native place. When he came into Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, since they had seen all he had done in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves had also been at the feast.
Then he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. Now there was a royal official whose son was ill in Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, who was near death. Jesus said to him, ‘Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.’ The royal official said to him, ‘Sir, come down before my child dies.’ Jesus said to him, ‘You may go; your son will live.’ The man took Jesus at his word and left.
While the man was on his way down, his slaves met him and told him that his boy would live. He asked them when he had begun to recover. They told him, ‘The fever left him yesterday, about one in the afternoon.’ The father realized that just at that time Jesus had said to him, ‘Your son will live,’ and he and his whole household came to believe.”
🙏 Reflection:
The royal official’s faith is a powerful example for our Lenten journey. He simply "took Jesus at his word" and his son was healed. This complete trust is the same faith we celebrate in the Joyful Mysteries. Mary, at the Annunciation, took the angel at his word, and the Word became flesh. Joseph trusted the word of the angel in his dream and took Mary as his wife. Today's Gospel and the Joyful Mysteries call us to a deeper faith—a faith that doesn't always need signs and wonders but trusts in the life-giving power of Jesus’ word. As we pray, let us ask for the grace to believe with the same simple, powerful trust as the official and our Blessed Mother.
