Holiday Perspective

Hello there.
I'm back!
I am mahogany, for at least the next month, if it lasts that long.

I've just come back from holiday. I was in Mykonos.
There's a couple of things I wanted to say.
I'm always really grateful for my privilege.
The ability to go on holiday for as long as I went on holiday.
More than two weeks.
And to have an amazing group of people around me.
I talk in The Promises of Giants about how you need to have a cabinet of people.
And these are the people who are authentically connected with you.
Who your wellbeing, your success is something that is intrinsically important to them.
And when on holiday and cheersing a round of booze, one of the group of four of us, it wasn't me, said:
"To the family you choose!"

And it became a theme for our holiday, and it is so true.
This is a group of four people who I've been on holiday many many times, and will continue to I hope.
And they give me life.

So I hope all of you out there that you are finding the family that you choose,
even if you don't quite have the support that you need that's related to you.
I have a bit of both, so I'm incredibly fortunate.

I am following the credo of Chapter 6 in my book,
to 'Tend to mind and body'.

But I just want to point out to all of you who have been lucky enough to have a holiday and are now back to busy lives, as many of us are.

That one block of time off,
consolidating all of our needs
for recuperation and rest and escape
into two weeks or one week a weekend, will not do it.

It is something that has to be consistent,
over the course of time.
And I say that not because I think you are soft
or snowflakes or need to be coddled
but because each of us,
if we want to perform at our peak,
we must have the energy to do that.

And this break that I've had has certainly rejuvenated me, I am ready.
But it's important to remember that it's not all at once.

We don't just have one break and then burn ourselves out.

I'm really looking forward to this year. There's so much fun stuff coming.
I've got super exciting new things to talk about. That we can't talk about just yet, but I hope you'll stay tuned for that.

And I would love to hear your thoughts.
As always, these Jedi Reflections are often a mixture of things that come off the top of my head.
Things that happened in the news or in society.
And then things that you offer.
And I'd love for you to contribute.
Tell me what it is that you love to hear about.
I don't have all the answers, I always say, but I usually try and come up with a decent perspective.

For those of you coming off holiday
Enjoy this glow that we have, often physically as well as kind of metaphorically, from the break.
And remember that that's not it for the year.
If you want to really be a high performer, you've got to find ways to grant yourself that respite.

And for those of you who haven't had that opportunity or perhaps won't,
find some family you choose,
some people who, when you're around them
regardless of whether on holiday or not -
they give you life.

I am so grateful to mine.
Obviously, my sisters are both amazing.
