“Our Parents Worked Two Jobs for 40 Years — Why Did So Many Retire With So Little?”

Many of our parents worked two jobs — sometimes three jobs — for decades.

Yet after 30 or 40 years of labor, many still retired with very little wealth or financial independence.

So we must ask an honest question:

Is the problem that Caribbean people do not work hard enough?

No.

The real question is this:

Were we trained to believe that hard work alone creates wealth?

Because the truth is:

Hard work produces income.

But ownership produces wealth.

For generations, Caribbean economies were structured during colonial times around labor systems.

Plantations needed labor.
Factories needed labor.
Service industries needed labor.

Caribbean people became excellent workers.

But very few were trained to become:

• investors
• system builders
• land owners
• infrastructure creators

This video challenges that mindset.

The Bible says in Deuteronomy 8:18:

"It is He who gives you the power to gain wealth."

Power does not only mean physical labor.

Power means wisdom, insight, opportunity, and strategy.

Kingdom wealth begins with wisdom — not sweat alone.

In this video I also share a personal story about my father, who learned important economic lessons during farm work in America and began investing in land back home in Jamaica.

That decision changed the direction of our family.

The lesson is simple:

Hard work is honorable.

But without wisdom, ownership, and systems, hard work alone rarely produces generational wealth.🌴 A Caribbean Reflection

Sometimes rebuilding the Caribbean is not just about economics.

It’s about remembering the things that shaped us.

The smell of mango trees in the summer.
The sound of coconut water pouring from a freshly cut nut.
The taste of guava jelly on fresh bread in the morning.

These simple things remind us that the Caribbean was never meant to be a place people only leave.

It was meant to be a place people build, invest, and return to.

For the Global Caribbean Diaspora over 40, the time may be coming to think differently about the islands that raised us.

Not just as a place of memories…

But as a place of future ownership, rebuilding, and legacy. 🌴
