Dr Jason Musyoka, Dr Sara Stevano, Dr Yannis Dafermos and Dr Njeri Mwagiru debate the topic of COVID-19's economic causes - particularly, whether or not we could classify this crisis as arising from capitalism.
The “Rethinking Economics for Africa (REFA) Festival 2021: Economics and the COVID-19 Crisis” was held online from Tuesday 31 August to Thursday 2 September 2021. This was the fourth annual, second virtual edition of the Festival. Organised by the students, academics and civil society organisations of REFA, the Festival showcased the latest thinking in alternative economic thought and economic policy.
The Festival had four streams:
Stream 1: How economics (mis)understood the crisis
Stream 2: Economics’ blindspot of social reproduction
Stream 3: Economics after the crisis: emerging trends in economic thinking
Stream 4: The impact of the crisis on African economies
