Treats Scatters can be used to help sooth a dog when in arousal .
Here the 2 dogs alerted to a sound and it is perfectly normal for them to bark except often these 2 dogs bark and bark and bark.
Brody in a previous session had already learned the "get it" (treat scatter ) words. Interesting he can not initially go to the scatter BUT he does not run down the stairs like Chico does. I decide to support him by going to him and offering what is called Rapid Fire Treats -which is the giving of one treat after another. I toss a handful over the rail hoping Chico will eat -which she does
Once I feel Brody has started to calm I see if he can offer a behavior and the behavior I want is the focus on me as we play your version of the Up Down Pattern game
Using food to sooth and lower arousal in moments like these is NOT rewarding the behavior of alert barking. The sound was concerning to them. We helped calm their nervous system
