This stage has an infamous oversight on Very Hard when you use anyone other than Yuan Shao.
Enemy's stats will increase depending on your own. If you increase your Defense, then the enemies will also increase their Attack universally. This includes their Bow Attack. So unless you use Nanman Armour to increase Bow Defense then you will become insanely squishy to archers.
This is also why the misconception started that Guan Yu has the lowest Bow Defense in the game, because his Defense is so high it makes archers deal more damage to him, despite him actually having a good Bow Defense base.
Since Wu has a lot of archers here, and Yuan Shao as an NPC on Very Hard has a ton of defense, because he is surrounded by archers when the game begins he can die in under a minute from the archers. It's luck whether he survives or not, so you would have to rush to save him and fight near him until the archers are gone.
