When 15-year-old Alaa fled her home in Khartoum, she lost everything. “We left with nothing but the clothes on our backs,” she says.
Now displaced, she has found hope in school. With UNICEF’s support, she received a bag, notebooks, and pens — and a safe space to continue her education.
Across Sudan, hundreds of schools have been damaged or turned into shelters, while millions of children remain out of school. Even before the conflict, 7 million children — one in three — were unable to access quality education.
UNICEF is working to reopen schools wherever possible and provide learning supplies so children can continue their education.
