Permissive parenting. That's what we're talking about in this video. It's one of the four major parenting styles and I'm going to tell you everything that you need to know about the permissive parenting style. We're going to go over three signs that you might be a permissive parent. I'm going to show you what the children of permissive parents grow up to be like, and I'm going to tell you one of my favorite parenting stories about some of my permissive parenting friend's son that went to kindergarten and flunked because of it. Well, welcome. If this is your first time watching one of my videos, we're so glad that you're here and welcome to the IP fam. The goal is to make you the strongest influence in the life of your child, because the strongest influence in the life of your child wins. See, when they're all grown up and you can't ground them anymore and you can't take away their iPhone or you can't put them in timeout, you're going to be left with one thing and that is your influence. So we want to develop that now and we want to develop that early because it's the one tool that's going to serve you and your children the rest of your life.

See, most parents think it's about giving your child a bunch of choices or positive parenting or connection or logic or love or whatever the deal is. It all boils down to what you'll be left with at the end of the day, and that is your influence. That's why we're so amazing. That's why we're so different. So, I've made other videos about the different parenting styles and those videos are going to be linked up there. I highly recommend watching those after you watch these, to get a big picture of the four parenting styles. But real quick, just to give you a ten second overview, there's four main parenting styles. We'll list these in order of strictness, okay. Authoritarian parents are the most strict, like a drill Sergeant. Authoritative parents are more like a loving coach or your favorite teacher, right, that really knew how to bring the best out of you, but gave you some tough love. Today we're talking about Permissive Parenting, which I'll tell you all about. And then, the fourth and most relaxed or even neglectful style of parenting is Passive Parenting.

Now, for the most part, the simplest definition of permissive parents is that they let their children do whatever they want to do. There are really two major reasons for this. Number one is that these type of permissive parents typically maybe grew up with an authoritarian type of parent, where everything was staunch and rigid and they made some sacred vow that they were never, ever, ever going to be like that as a parent. They ended up way over compensating for the way that they were raised and they just let their children do whatever they want to do.

The second thing is that sometimes people just have really, really relaxed personalities and they just like to let their children roam or do whatever they want. It's not even really a conscious decision. It's just that's who they are as a person and that's what ends up happening at the end of the day.
