I wrote this song in 2019, at a time when I had been recording many old songs (about one a week), but not releasing anything. This is an example of making a slight change to your approach when seeking inspiration. The guitar is tuned to standard tuning, but with a capo on the fourth fret. The change of voice for the guitar led very quickly to the musical idea and the chorus. This was slightly unusual, in that I wrote it a little back to front - chorus first, second verse, then I got stuck. I wrote these parts quickly on 23 March 2019 and parked it for a while. I revisited it on 26 June 2019 and quickly wrote the first verse.

Although it may seem a sad, angry or even wistful song, it isn't based on my personal experience. I believe that a writer should be able to write or convey any story or emotion they set out to, and I hope I have achieved that here.
