ニューヨークと北京を拠点にキュレーション・編集・出版を行うコレクティブte editionsが企画するこのトークでは、Luka Yuanyuan Yangによる『Dance in Herland』（te editions出版）の編集者Kechun Qinとデザインを手掛けたStudio Pianpian He and Max Harveyが登壇し、批評的な視点をもちながら1冊の本を作り上げるうえで、編集的なヴィジョンとデザインがいかに交差するかについて語り合います。
『Dance in Herland』は、中国系アメリカ人のパフォーマーたちの経験談を記録し、主流な文化的ナラティヴの中で周縁化されがちな声に光を当てています。写真や貴重な口述記録、文芸作品、研究者へのインタビューなど多様な資料を集め、生きたアーカイヴを構築しています。Studio Pianpian He and Max Harveyは、これらのレイヤーを巧みに織り合わせ、異なる色の紙を用いて多様な口述記録の背景を可視化しつつ、時代の視覚的痕跡を本というメディアのかたちに編み上げています。


Kechun Qin｜クーチュン・チン
ニューヨークと北京を拠点に、芸術と人文学の交わりを探求しながら、キュレーション・編集・出版活動を行うコレクティヴ、te editionsの共同設立者兼編集者。歴史的および現代的な社会状況を多様かつミクロな視点で調査し、グローバルな文化の流れの中で文化同士が交錯し、崩壊し、互いに変容し合う過程を考察している。

Studio Pianpian He and Max Harvey｜スタジオ・ピエンピエン・ホー・アンド・マックス・ハーヴィー
2015年に設立され、中国とアメリカを拠点に異なるジャンルを横断しながら活動するデザインスタジオ。繁栄や衰退、変動、不安定さをはらむ経済状況の中で、いかにイメージを生み出すかを主眼に置いている。作品の意図とプロモーションがしばしば衝突する状況に向き合いながら、現代美術と広報・ビジュアル制作の領域を行き来している。制作の過程では、最終的なアウトプットにおいて何を示し、何を削ぎ落とすのかを吟味し、過剰な説明を避ける場合もあれば、あえてその過剰さを取り込むこともある。効率性を重視したプロモーションの手法や急速に消費されていく文化的傾向に逆らいながら、控えめながらも長く残る、時には収集価値をもちうるデザイン作品の創出を目指している。

te editions, a New York- and Beijing-based collective engaged in curation, editing, and publishing, will present a conversation between the editor Kechun Qin and the designers Studio Pianpian He & Max Harvey. Together, they will introduce the artist book Dance in Herland by Luka Yuanyuan Yang, exploring how editorial vision and design intersect to produce a book through a critically engaged perspective.
Dance in Herland documents the stories and experiences of Chinese American performers, foregrounding voices often marginalized in dominant cultural narratives. Gathering photographs, rare oral histories, creative writings, and interviews with scholars into a living archive. Designers Studio Pianpian He & Max Harvey wove these layers together, using papers in different colors to map diverse oral history backgrounds, while delicately translating the visual traces of an era into the language of the book.

Kechun Qin is the co-founder and editor of te editions—a curatorial, editorial, and publishing collective operating in New York and Beijing, dedicated to exploring the intersection of art and the humanities. We examine historical and contemporary social landscapes through a diversified and microscopic lens, focusing on how cultures encounter, collapse, and transform each other within global cultural flows.

Studio Pianpian He and Max Harvey
Studio Pianpian He and Max Harvey is an interdisciplinary design studio founded in 2015, working between China and America. Their focus lies in making images within booming, declining, fluctuating, and unsustainable economies. The studio moves between contemporary art and publicity, at a moment where promotion often conflicts with a work’s intentions. Their practice examines what should be revealed or discarded in the final product, sometimes to avoid over-explanation, sometimes to embrace it. Sailing against usual patterns of effective promotion and fast consumption, they aim to create modest but lasting design works, even collectibles.
