This is a complete step-by-step guide on how to make a friction fire using the Hand Drill method. I will cover basic techniques as well as useful cheats to get you started.

I show you what woods work, from the spindle of mullein to soft woods for the hearth board (cottonwood, aspen, poplar, spruce and cedar). Cattail stalks are an alternative, but it is quite fragile and I do not recommend it.

I'll show you how to identify mullein weed and where to find it around old infill city lots and train tracks.

Cheats include pre-drying your materials including your hearth board, spindle as well as using honey to coat your hand drill. Therefor, this is a biggers guide.

I'll talk about blisters and how you only have 1 chance to produce a fire until you need to rest your hands for a week.

I encourage everyone to get out there and try this for yourself rather than just watch passively.
