Dinner with friends at Tao Tao Ju, then heading to Guangdong TV Station. At that moment: torrential rain. Experiencing Guangzhou on foot, in the rain.

Where do we begin to understand a city?

In Guangzhou, I'd say: walking in the rain.

Eight out of ten visits, it seems to rain. Sudden, heavy. But walking through it—strangely exhilarating. Rain drumming on the umbrella, splashing coolly on feet. Others scurrying past; you, just strolling.

Leaving Guangdong TV Station—rain still pouring.

Walking to the bus stop near Asia International Hotel. Waiting, rain still coming down. The shelter crowded—heads buried in phones, some gazing blankly, others scanning for buses.

On the bus: watching a city through rain—another kind of pleasure.

Huanshi East Road to Wuyangcun, then Guangzhou Avenue South, finally Diejing Road. Rain streaking down the windows, blurring the outside world into hazy light. Neon glows, trailing headlights, passing silhouettes—all dissolved in rain.

Mind drifting. Thinking about anything—or nothing. Letting go.

Tao Tao Ju: Guangzhou's time‑honored teahouse.

Founded 1880 on Dishifu Road. Name means “joyful together.” Kang Youwei himself inscribed the calligraphy. Lu Xun, Ba Jin frequented it. Designated a “China Time‑Honored Brand” in 1997. Its mooncakes named “National Pastry of China” in 2005.

Guangdong TV Station: 331 Huanshi East Road.

Established 1959—one of China's earliest. Witness to Guangdong's television history. In the rain, the station building looked unusually calm.

Where do we begin to understand a city?

With its rain‑soaked walks—from Tao Tao Ju's dumplings to the downpour at the station.
With its bus rides—rain streaming down windows, the city glimpsed through blurred light.
With its “letting go”—moments of just staring out, thinking nothing.

2023年9月15日，广州。从广州美术馆（麓湖路旧址）出来后，下午的行程。在陶陶居和广州朋友吃饭，然后去广东电视台。这时候，倾盆大雨。体验广州雨中步行。

应该从哪里开始了解一座城市？

在广州，我觉得可以是雨中步行。

好像十次来，有八次会下雨。广州的雨，来得急，下得大，但走在雨里，有种特别的畅快。雨水打在伞上，噼里啪啦；雨水溅在脚上，凉凉的。街上的行人匆匆跑过，只有你慢慢走。

从广东电视台出来，仍然是倾盆大雨。

步行到公交站——亚洲国际大酒店附近。等车的时候，雨还在下，站台上挤满了躲雨的人。有人低头看手机，有人望着天发呆，有人不停地看车来的方向。

坐上公交，在雨中看一个城市，也有意思。

从环市东路到五羊邨，再到广州大道南，最后到叠景路。车窗上，雨水不停地流下来，把外面的世界变成模糊的光影。霓虹灯的光晕，车灯的拖影，行人的剪影——全都融化在雨里。

大脑意识流可以随意流淌。可以想一些事情，也可以什么事都不想，放空自己。

陶陶居，广州老字号茶楼。

1880年创立于广州第十甫路，名字取“乐也陶陶”之意。康有为曾亲笔题写“陶陶居”三字。鲁迅、巴金、陈残云等名人曾是其常客。1997年，陶陶居被认定为中华老字号。2005年，其月饼被定为“中国国饼”。今天和朋友在这里吃饭，聊了很多。

广东电视台，就在环市东路331号。

1959年成立，是中国最早的电视台之一。从老台到新址，见证了广东电视事业的发展。雨中的电视台大楼，显得格外安静。
