Complete Ingredients:
2 cups (250 g) flour
1/8 cup (2 tbsps) sugar
1 pack vanilla sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsps instant yeast
1 large egg
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup warm milk
powdered sugar for dusting
oil for frying
optional:
cinnamon
lemon zest
slice apple
raisins
cranberries
This recipe yield 10-15 pcs. of Oliebollen (oil balls), depends on the size.
What is Oliebol (Oliebollen)?
Oliebol is a traditional belgian and dutch beignet. In english, they are more commonly known as Dutch Doughnuts. The dough is made from flour, eggs, yeast, some salt, water or milk and usually sultanas, currants, raisins and sometimes zest or succade (candied fruit). A notable variety is the appelbeignet which contains only a slice of apple, but different from oliebollen, the dough should not rise for at least an hour. Oliebollen are usually served with powdered sugar.
