Len Fillis was known mostly as a British dance band guitarist in the 1920's and 30's. In this recording, listed as "Guitar solo" on the label, he seems to be playing lap steel (Hawaiian) guitar. This record dates from 1927 which is several years before the Rickenbacker "Frying Pan" electric steel guitar was released, and over a decade before Les Paul first made his "The Log". In the mid 1930's Len Fillis made the first recordings on 'Electric Spanish' guitar in the UK, and he also recorded on the banjo.
