In this episode of "Hub City Now with Tyrone Tony Reed Jr.", I spoke with Kat Cloud, Tennessee Area Director for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Cloud spoke about the organization, its purpose and goals, and its upcoming fundraiser event, the first Out of Darkness Walk in Jackson, Tenn., which will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29 at The Ballpark at Jackson, located at 4 Fun Place, in Jackson, Tenn.
According to the organization's Facebook event page (www.facebook.com/events/882807861910605), "Join us for the first Jackson Out of the Darkness walk - an event that brings the Jackson community together to raise awareness and raise funds to help stop suicide."
CLoud said free registration begins at 9am; the program starts at 10am and the walk will begin at 10:30am.
Whether you are a suicide loss survivor, someone who struggles with depression and/or suicidal thoughts, or someone who supports the cause, you are welcome. Bring your families and your furry friends, and prepare to have a time of hope, healing, and unity. Walk in memory of someone you lost, or for yourself. Bring a photo of your loved one for our display, as well. We will have music, snacks, and partners who have resources to share.
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
Thanks to walkers and donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025. With your help, we can do it!"
