A second commission of inquiry will be launched into the failings of Queensland’ state-run forensic laboratory.
The Australian Journalist and Podcaster Hedley Thomas says the problem is on a scale “much bigger than anything the previous inquiry dealt with”.
The first commission found “very strong findings” of “corrupted science” over several years, he said.
The initial investigation revealed flaws in the extraction method used in forensic and DNA testing on 30,000 cases since 2007.
Mr Thomas says the new commission of inquiry being launched comes after the discovery from Dr Kirsty Wright which found “documents that point to an incredible cover-up in the lab from 2007 spanning nine years”.
“Affecting many, many thousands of cases,” he told Sky News Australia.
