The "Best Day Hike in the World" (sort of): Tama Lakes Track, Tongariro, New Zealand

Our trip to New Zealand was not what we expected. We trained for months to accomplish the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, commonly referred to as "The Best Day Hike in the World." But due to unseasonably bad weather the week we were there, the trail was given a "no-go" by park rangers. Looking for another hike that would still put our training to the test, we found the Tama Lakes Track and set out on the trail. From impressive waterfalls to alpine lakes to the sweeping views of mountains and volcanoes, this 11 mile hike was absolutely epic! Though it was not the hike we came to do, we couldn't imagine a more perfect day!
