Описание: Barytes or Barites is a form of Barium Sulphate used in industry and medicine. It was mined and processed on Arran from 1840 to 1862 and again from circa 1914 to 1938. It was taken down to boats at a quay in Sannox by rail. The iron overshot waterwheel was fed off mill ponds and lades running off the Sannox Burn. In 1938 9000 tons of Baryte were produced. The mines closed when the mineral vein was exhausted. Muirshiel had a Barytes mine that closed in 1969.
