STORYLINE:
Thousands of people staged a rally in Karachi, Pakistan, on Sunday to express solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

The rally was organized by Pakistan's radical Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami party.

The protesters carried Palestinian flags, while carrying posters and chanting slogans which were anti-Israeli.

Siraj ul Haq, the chief of Jamaat-e-Islami in Pakistan, said it was incumbent on Muslim countries to help the people of Gaza.

“The rulers of Muslim countries must reach Gaza to support people of Palestine before Gaza becomes a heap of bodies, before life ends there. They should extend real, practical support,” he said.

“I am against the destruction of Palestine, against the killing of our Muslim brothers and sisters,” said protester Khansa Zahoor, who was among the women who joined the rally.

Israel is expected to launch a ground offensive in Gaza in the war sparked by a deadly attack by Hamas militants.
