The goal of the new "Master Philosophy" is to focus on the categorization and utilization of the entire product line starting from the gut and moving out to the periphery. With that being said, let us begin with what we call phase 1A; the digestive system.
I truly believe that gut and its power of influence can massively transform the body in either way. If someone is struggling and you help them digest food, everything seems to receive some benefit. If someone is feeling great, and their gut takes a hit in some way, it’s total effects are never just contained within gut. Knowing this, I myself as a practitioner, always start with digestion as a baseline intervention due to its ability to have a massively beneficial impact in an overall sense, and unlike some more advanced areas of focus or target within the body, there is very little down-side starting here.
Before we get into the products for phase 1A and how to use them, we should do a quick refresher on the process of digestion as a whole;
1. Digestion begins when we SEE or SMELL food, not when we start eating. This shows you that state of mind and approach to meals matters A LOT to set up the following chain of events
2. Chewing is the single most important thing you can do as the next step to ensure you expose the maximum amount of surface area for the stomach and its secretions to be properly secreted, and for the secretions to properly break down proteins. A low pH of stomach acids will activate pepsin and properly signal what happens after the stomach.
3. Once food leaves the stomach and enters the proximal segment of the small intestine (the duodenum) the pancreas and gallbladder release enzymes & bile to further mix with the chyme that comes out of the stomach to continue the process of chemical breakdown of macronutrients.
4. As the contents move through the small intestine and end up when the last step of digestion takes place; the epithelial barrier (brush border) the final step of digestion happens when brush border enzymes break our nutrients into the smallest possible units that are ideal for absorption.
5. From here we move the rest of the content to the colon for final absorption processes, fermentation of fibers, generation of post biotics, and MOST IMPORTANTLY waste removal
This sounds like a smooth, fluid, and beautiful process that sadly almost never happens anymore in most people due to the fact that MOST of the western world suffers from some sort of digestive ailment. Why this matters, is that if this process is compromised in some way, over the course of time, it creates a host of collateral issues that then can progress into imbalances that become systemic and the impact on our health cannot be ignored. THIS is what we aim to help with Phase 1A of the Mastery Philosophy and it’s simply knowing how to support this process and when to utilize a product, and in what way in order to do so. Let’s examine the tools of our trade.
HCLXYM: hydrochloric acid production support
This product helps under situations of hypochloridria to support the lack of stomach acid which compromises protein digestion, pathogen neutralization, and inhibits the potential downstream issues the result from this process being inhibited naturally.
Digestxym & Digestxym (+): full macronutrient breakdown support
These 2 offer BROAD SPECTRUM macronutrient digestion support across multiple pH rages to begin taking over from where HCL left off. Complete digestion of what I consider the “mid-phase” is essential for the final phase prior to absorption to be able to take place.
Enzalase: fat-focused digestion
Also, a digestive enzyme, but with less broad-spectrum support than the 2 above but MORE emphasis on fat digestion which would be a great starting place for those with liver/gallbladder issues where fatty foods fire out of them like a Japanese bullet train.
These products can be used in a variety of different ways which I feel should always be guided by practitioner philosophy, patient need, and training in the field of health when making decisions. The key is knowing where each product fits into its role of the digestive process. A simple example of this is; to unlock optimal protein digestion, HCL is paramount but SO are protease enzymes. Knowing how one affects the other is key to know how a SUPPLEMENT really fits in to the process which you are trying to support. Now that we have a good basis in the first phase of our process, we will continue next month with 1B and a closer look at the microbiome and gut-immune axis. See you then!-Roland Pankewich
