Waterspouts are fairly common in tropical waters. This one is special because it formed only a few hundred feet from the Harmony of the Seas. Although waterspouts are usually less powerful and less destructive than their cousin, the tornado's fundamental structure is the same. The swirl pattern on the ocean's surface reminded me of a spiral galaxy. It was amazing to watch the waterspout form over the course of only a few minutes.
I'm an avid weather enthusiast, but I never seem to be in the right place at the right time. This time I had a front-row seat.
