An antique Edwardian dress gets a brief soak to freshen and a custom made lace bib collar to finish

Описание: Worn for the June 5, 1906 wedding of Annie Miller to Harry L. Marsh in Crookston , Minnesota, this beautiful Edwardian wedding dress features gorgeous lace over 2 layers of silk. I purchased the dress from a seller on Facebook marketplace and they purchased it from an estate sale. The dress had a piece of paper with it stating the dates and names- I love knowing who originally wore it! As found, the dress lining had been re-done by someone at some point. My assumption is the original lining was a silk that didn’t stand the test of time. I appreciate all the effort they did- thank you to whomever you are! I wasn’t wanting to brighten the dress as I loved the ecru shade, but wanted to give it a brief soak to freshen and chose unscented Eucalan for that. I used a fabric sling to better protect the cotton lace in the process. The dress originally would have been worn with something underneath the jacket, so I fashioned a “false front” lace bib and collar “ dickie” using vintage laces from my collection. I’m really happy with how that turned out! I did it in such a way that the bib portion lace piece was not cut, and could be re-moved and re-purposed for another garment if the new owner chooses to do so.
