As the name suggest, Andharban simply means a ‘Dark Dense Forest’. During monsoons, this trek is one of the most refreshing treks of Sahyadri mountain range. Andharban Forest is located in the Pimpri region of Maharashtra and is approx..150Km from Mumbai.

It is one of the most beautiful attraction of the Sahyadri range which connects the Tamhini Ghat to the famous Konkan region. Historically, the Andharban trail was an ancient trade route connecting the Konkan region to the Pune plateau, adding historical importance to the trek.

Britishers realized the military strategic importance of the high Tamhini Ghat ridges during the 18th and 19th centuries. It was only in the 1970s that government committees officially surveyed and documented the Andharban trekking zone.

While walking through this jungle covered in fog, you will witness amazing views of the Kundalika Valley, hear mesmerizing streams of water and gushing waterfalls. The weather was very pleasant with drizzling rains and fog all around, making it perfect for trekking. This trek is of easy grade category and the continuous rain made it more pleasant. There are many small waterfalls throughout the trek, flowing from top of the hill and running down deep into the valley. The sounds of water steams and wind blowing all around was making the surrounding melodious.

The first stage of the Andharban trek will take you down into a mossy green jungle, immersing trekkers in the raw wilderness. As the trail continues deeper into the rainforest, the sounds of birds chirping, flows of water steams and swirling fogs makes a heavenly effect.

The Andharban jungle is blessed with the rich biodiversity. It also provides a rich habitat for exotic animals and birds rarely seen near bustling cities. Andharban forest also rejoices birdwatchers as it is a paradise for various types of birds.

You can see the beautiful views of Kundalika valley from the plateau. Several waterfalls flowing down from top of the mountains, the moving cover of clouds and the rains, ohh everything was so majestic. The Valley was created by the erosion of the river Kundalika flowing from the hills of Sahyadri to the Arabian Sea.
