This journey is a return booking trip. I made my booking from Madrid to Barcelona and vice versa in one booking.
I reserved a round-trip ticket 12 days ahead and managed to snag a good deal on Madrid to Barcelona for only 59€. However, my Barcelona to Madrid leg was much more expensive at 79.10€, resulting in a 20€ difference. The total fare came to 138 euros.
Returning to Madrid turned out to be more expensive, contrary to my expectation that booking ahead of time for a round trip would give me an extra discount.
To my surprise, I discovered that it's actually cheaper to avail of the ticket as a one-way fare.
So, if you're planning a trip from Madrid to Barcelona and vice versa, consider booking your tickets as one-ways rather than a round-trip ticket to save extra money.
