Why Does Concrete Need Control Joints?

Описание: Concrete shrinks as it cures because the water is lost through evaporation and through the actuation process. As the concrete cures and shrinks, it will crack. Control joints, also called expansion or contraction joints, are used to try to encourage the concrete to break where you want it and not where you don't want it.
Control joints do not ensure that the concrete will not crack. However, if the joints are cut to the right depth or added when the concrete is first placed and still "wet", it is more likely that there will not be additional cracking in unwanted spots of the finished concrete. Wet curing the concrete will also help substantially in avoiding cracks in the finished concrete.
