Here I give an easy-going (i.e., intentionally not-too-precise) introduction to portions of one version of Taiji Ruler (a.k.a "T'ai Chi Ruler"; Tàijí chǐ 太極尺) practice.
The two moves I show here are intro-level variations on moves from a Taiji Ruler practice that was transmitted by Zhao Zhongdao (
1844 - 1962).
I learned the full practice (not shown here in this video) from one of my main qigong teachers, Ken Cohen (https://www.qigonghealing.com). Ken Cohen teaches the practice with much more precisions than I show here, and I sometimes teach it with more precision, too. Here in this video, I am experimenting with sharing the practice with fewer initial instructions.
All mistakes and misguided wanderings are my own.
Nota bene: Alas, I sloppily misspoke while recording the session from which this video came, and I mistakenly referred to the ruler as a Tàijí bàng” (太极棒). That was incorrect. The Tàijí bàng (太极棒) is typically called a "Taiji Stick" in English, and it is a simpler-looking wooden implement than the wooden ruler I show in the video. The Taiji Ruler is referred to as “Tàijí chǐ” (太極尺) in Mandarin Chinese.
