Wow do I have a lot to say about this game, I had been trying to Normal 1CC this for the past 2 days with Flame Viper, In this run - which was a crazy ride, you'll notice many of the "mechanics" in this game on display, actually almost all of them, at one point or another.

In terms of Rank (the game getting more difficult the more play at different rates, then dropping in difficulty when you die)... I decided to just ignore it for this run and it actually turned out better than doing any kind of suicide strats, and that is partly because I randomly got a x64 multiplier chain in an early stage that got me my first extend extremely quick, this also allowed me to get my second extend in the last stage, which I needed for my clear. I would recommend Scoring based on Side Shot, and CHAINING instead of Rank Control in this game. And probably dont go picking up every medal or else late game might get too difficult... who knows..

Firstly lets talk about Controls - this game has built in Rapid Fire, so put all your xpadder and all that crap away - here's how it works. Holding C and pushing certain buttons or directions gives you this effect:

-Hold C + Tap A = Rapid Fire Adjustment (each ship starts with a base rapid fire you can see at the top of the screen (#15 - means 15hz rapid fire which is the base rapid fire of Flame Viper C-Variant)

-Hold C + Tap Left/Right/Down = Bullet color adjustment ( I like to just make the regular shots pink, and leave the destructble shots as orange to let me know they are destructible) - Ive also tried purple and it looks really nice :) - At the beginning on first boss I change it to pink.

= Hold C + Tap Up - turn on scoring / chain display - I did this at the very end during the final boss on ACCIDENT lol!

Now lets talk Ship Selection and Variants -

Each ship has 4 Variants based on the button you select them with - Shot, Side Shot, Bomb, and Speed - (A,B,C,Start) - this also changes the color of the ship, AND changes the autofire they start with - that autofire is the base, you cannot go lower, for example Flame Viper A = 20hz, but Flame Viper C = 15hz.

I kept 15hz till the LAST BOSS and died... trying to adjust it to 30 using the shortcut lol, which I end up doing on my last life as it comes into play. I dont think high hz is needed for this game or this ship...

Lastly - lets talk special formations - these are based on letting a very specific number of certain items fall off the screen and then picking up the green "option" item before letting any more fall off, or picking any up... on display in this run is:

Homing (Mosquito) Formation: - Miss exactly 5 Bomb items
Shadow (Gradius) Formation: - Miss exactly 5 Medals
Rolling (Spinning Forward shot): - Miss exactly 5 Shot Powerups

Wide and Search are not used during this run. Rolling and Shadow were accidental - while the Homing option was on purpose that I actually wanted to get that one so I let 5 bomb items fall off the bottom. Sometimes you'll get wide or Rolling on Accident while trying to pick up your powerups after a death...The advantage is you jump straight back to 6 options instead of having to recollect 6 option tokens... I got Rolling on accident cuz I was avoiding picking up "powerups" at max power because I didnt need the points ... EVERYTIME you activate a secret option you are incurring addition rank FOREVER whether you keep using it or not (until you gameover)... those compound.

NOW - A MYSTERY- at 7:52 I get hit, and die, and pick up one option... and it made the secret option SOUND, not sure what happened here but I got all 6 of my options back but I didnt get any secret formation? It just looks like a REGULAR 6 Option formation... which usually you have to recollect 6 option tokens to get back... not sure if I incurred additional rank for this too...
