The Chimalapas region in Oaxaca state is considered the most biodiverse area of Mexico and one of the most biodiverse areas in Mesoamerica. This region is ancestral property of the ‘Chimalapa Zoque’, an indigenous group descendant from the ancient Olmec culture.
Over the last centuries, the Chimalapa people have undergone a brave, tenacious and peaceful struggle for the defense of their communal territory and their invaluable Natural Common Goods, which have been invaded and plundered over the last 60 years, with impunity, by loggers and ranchers with alleged complicity of the government.
Regretfully we, as an NGO supporting this indigenous communities have no budget to continue our work in this region, which consists on: advocacy, capacity building, assistance and awareness-raising activities.
We are currently looking for donors, who are committed to join the fight for the land and resource rights of the indigenous communities.
