Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is a Pakistani businessman, engineer, and statesman who served as the 18th Prime Minister of Pakistan from August 2017 to May 2018. With a background in electrical engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and a career spanning both the corporate and political sectors, he is widely recognized for his technocratic approach to governance and policy reform.

Before assuming the office of Prime Minister, he held key federal portfolios, including Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources. In this capacity, he played a central role in initiating Pakistan’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import framework, contributing to efforts aimed at addressing the country’s chronic energy shortages. His tenure was marked by a focus on infrastructure development, energy security, and economic stabilization.

A long-standing member of the National Assembly, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has remained an active voice in parliamentary politics, advocating institutional reform, rule of law, and democratic continuity. Beyond politics, he has experience in the aviation sector and corporate management, having founded and led private enterprises prior to entering full-time public service.
