I got behind the wheel of a Peterbilt battery-electric Class 8 day cab, and I have to say, it was a treat to drive. It had more pickup than my Nissan Leaf and drove exactly like a truck should, except without the diesel engine noise. Every squeak and knock you normally wouldn’t notice suddenly becomes audible in the quiet, which was a surprisingly cool experience.
According to the Peterbilt rep on-site, this specific unit has an estimated range of about 150 miles (240 km), making it well-suited for regional and urban applications.
This ride & drive took place at the Green Transportation Summit & Expo in Tacoma, Washington. I’m excited to see more of these electric heavy-duty trucks on the road as the technology continues to evolve.
