It can be tricky to keep food for salamander larvae. My guiding principle is always just replicate the habitat they would naturally live in.
By using water from a water source similar to where they come from I can be sure there are microorganism in the water. I keep the water in a large jar and do water swaps ever couple or few days. By keeping the natural water in its own container I am prepared to do a water swap at any time. Another benifit of keeping an extra tank of just water is it also allows the microorganisms to have offspring, multiply, and add the the population - thus giving you even more food!
If you want to try to keep water inside you may want to consider keeping a stocking on the top like I do, as there are probably some larvae inside the tank that may develop into different flying insects.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you do NOT allow any of the predators that could naturally be in the water as well to be transferred into your salamander tank. Dragonfly larvae or other larger insects that could prey on the salamander larvae in the wild could pose a threat to your larvae in the tank.
