When H.M. Frederik X stepped forward to receive the people's tribute and be proclaimed by the country's Prime Minister, he followed an ancient tradition that can be traced back to 1699. This ceremony took its form when Frederik IV was proclaimed from Copenhagen Castle.
Historically, it was the Grand Chancellor who was responsible for the proclamation, and tradition dictates that the proclamation must be announced in all four corners of the world. But the proclamation in 2024 had taken on a new and exciting twist.
Museum curator Jesper Munk Andersen gives us a deeper insight into this development and the history of the tradition.
