Meghalaya’s Early Childhood Development Mission (MECDM) supports children from birth to 8 years, and pregnant & lactating women, through a holistic approach to early childhood development—Good Health, Adequate Nutrition, Opportunities for Early Learning, Responsive Caregiving, and Safety & Security. Evidence shows that investments in the early years deliver long-term gains in health, learning, productivity, and well-being (World Bank Group, 2017).
MECDM works across three key spaces:
• Family & Home
• Centres (Anganwadi Centres and Pre-Schools)
• Community, by strengthening frontline workers and community institutions
MECDM is a first-of-its-kind integrated mission in India, bringing together the Departments of Health, Education, Social Welfare, and Community & Rural Development to work in convergence—because children’s needs are interconnected.
