Meeting my Cuban Dance Girlfriend 💃🕺

Описание: Our dance camp in Cuba was fantastic. We got to dance Salsa day and night. To help us learn, our group was all allocated a private dancer, who becomes our partner for three hours of dance classes every day, then also at night our social dancing. All the guys were allocated a dance girlfriend, and all the women were allocated a dance boyfriend.

It became easier to learn with ou familiar dance partners. Some were very friendly, and had a good social connection. My assigned dance girlfriend wasn't quite so social though, and only attended the classes. So... I needed to go out and find my own dance girlfriend in Cuba. This wasn't quite so easy a task. But I wanted to go dancing in Havana, in the clubs. I wanted to practice and enjoy the Cuban Salsa. Being a partner dance, you do actually NEED a partner. While I could (and did) ask random women in the clubs to dance, this really wasn't the same as a dance girlfriend.

Most Cuban women don't speak English, and I certainly don't speak much Spanish. Also, I wanted a dance partner who I could practice moves with, who was familiar and friendly, and who would also come to dinner and share some Cuban culture and the sights of the beautiful country.

After the dance camp ended, I remained in Havana for more than two months, doing as much Salsa dancing as I could. A magical place. A different place. Filled with music, with laughter, song and certainly a lot of dancing.

During my search for a dance partner, I got to meet some wonderful locals, and to explore Cuba more than as a regular tourist. Such as being smuggled aboard the local transport, where I later found out tourists are completely not allowed. Now it makes sense why I was told not to talk English, to keep away from the staff on board, and to wear a borrowed Cuban top as mine was too 'foreign'.

During this trip we enjoyed attending a large five star resort, all to ourselves as a dance group. We enjoyed live music in the clubs. I got to discover the curious quirks of Cuban Wifi, shared a meal and cocktails with Claire, the most well connected Cuban travel writer, had the electricity go out numerous times while out at restaurants at night, and enjoyed a lot of dancing.

But while I tried hard to get a good dance girlfriend there, and had some quality candidates, there was always some issues... like the quality of their dancing, or difficulties with language. Surely I could find my dance girlfriend there in Cuba, of all places?

Interestingly it was my last week in Havana when I FINALLY found my dance girlfriend. Not a local Cuban woman as it could have been, and further, it wasn't just for 'dancing' either. It was a passionate life partner I found. Larissa, who I met in Cuba, though she was not there, but matched with me on an app, as she was very close to my city at the time, albeit sailing past on a cruise ship from Jamaica to Mexico. But THAT is a whole other story!
