Blencathra via Sharp Edge and Halls Fell Ridge with

In this video I'm joined for the first time with Steven from ‪@outofayrshire143‬ so please go and check out his channel. Being from Scotland pretty much all of his video's are of him bagging the Munro's, and only the other week he completed all 282, so many congratulations mate.

Steve was keen to summit Blencathra and having done most of Scotland's 'scary' ridge walks he was excited to see what arguably England's toughest was like. He's not new to them, he had done previously both Striding Edge and Swirral Edge on Helvellyn. But, Sharp Edge is the one that is most feared.

So, with a great day's weather forecast we decided to tackle it head on. Unfortunately as you will see in the video, not for the first time the weather man was completely wrong. Still, with us both travelling a couple of hours to get to the start point we were not going to not give it a go.

Our route started in Scale's parking near the White Horse Inn and took us around the flanks of Scales Fell, up the valley eventually arriving at Scales Tarn. From here we took the path to the right to Sharp Edge. I will say, although it was misty, the rocks were dry. I would not recommend going over Sharp Edge if the rocks were wet or icy. Please also bear in mind that, although the edge is short in length, there is some serious exposure to both sides. I would say if you have done Striding Edge and did not feel comfortable then Sharp Edge is not for you. That said, if you enjoy this type of experience then you must give it a go.

Sharp Edge completed, we first bagged the Birkett top of Atkinson Pike before heading east across to the Wainwright fells of Bannerdale Crags and Bowscale Fell. We then headed back on ourselves, missing out Bannerdale Crags to reach Blencathra's true summit of Halls Fell Top. From here we descended back down of the fell via Hall's Fell Ridge. WOW, what a cracking ridge this is. Wonderful scrambling and again some exposure, nothing like Sharp Edge, but another place where you must take your time and take care.

Having eventually dropped off the ridge is was a nice easy path following the wall all the way back to the pub and a nice refreshing pint.
