In Words Matter, Gibsons artist Helena Wadsley alters books to take on a sculptural form based on their contents, asking us to consider how we use words that may be oppressive or perpetuate difference and otherness. Wadsley transforms books into tactile sculptural forms that draw attention to histories embedded in language. Language is biased; what gets written in history books is skewed, and therefore Wadsley alters the book in a way that speaks to its context, generally incorporating a textile technique.
