This is the Hasenheide Handicap 5K, where the slowest runners start first, the fastest start last, and if everyone runs their PB… we should all finish at the same time.
I started 3 minutes and 27 seconds behind the first runner, with two people chasing me down from behind and just five kilometres to catch the rest.
What followed? Heat, hills, near-miss overtakes, and an extremely dramatic sprint finish.
